My Husband's car was hit by a car exiting the parking garage in the private driveway of the condo where we live. He reviewed the tape on the security monitor and it clearly shows that the other driver was at fault. However, the property management will not release the segment of the video to us claiming it violates the privacy act and that only the police can request it. Is this true? This tape would be extremely helpful for insurance purposes and in the event of a lawsuit. Is there any way to get a hold of the footage?

If you and your husband own a unit in the condo then the two of you are owners in the condo association, therefore as an owner the two of you have full access to the video because it's common property. The property management company has no right to deny you access to the video unless they have specific instructions from the council that those videos can only be released to certain people. If they don't, tell them to hand it over or be prepared to be turfed as the property managers. If they do then contact the council president about getting a copy.
