If people have anacondas and croc monitors as pets, why can't I have a Komodo dragon?

They have a very nasty saliva full of dangerous bacteria and when they bite something it pretty much can kill a grown man. It's an unrealistic pet to own something that grows so big and is extremely deadly and not easily managed by one single person.

Anacondas are rare... most states don't even allow them to be shipped in unless you have a business like a zoo. I think you are thinking of pythons. Plus crocodiles are only available to people who have license.... Check your state laws, you may be able to get one from a breeder.

Komodo dragons are protected by International Law as an Endangered Species. In answer to the other two questions: 1) It is now illegal to transport out of state anacondas, burmese, retics, red-tails, etc. for sale. 2) Crocodile monitors are longer than komodos, however they have just discovered a Black Dragon which is apparently as big as the komodo. I purchased a hatchling this year and am training it to target for a zoo program here in ABQ. 99.9% of all private citizens in the US will abandon these animals. The food bill to keep them healthy, the size of enclosure, the permits to keep them. Homeowners insurance does not cover accidental bites or accidents that occur on your property when any of these animals is involved. A guy was killed by his 8 foot burmese (a tame pet) teo years ago in Denver Co. People should not have these animals unless they are involved directly with a zoo or outreach program. You have no idea about what you think you want to have as a "pet." In summary: what people used to be able to get is now and in the future against the law. Congress passed this bill over a month ago.

komodo dragons are venomous its not bacteria that was proven awhile ago by Dr. Fry got check his site out at venomdoc sss your really wrong and dont seem to know what your talking about, anacondas are not illegal and are very far from rare i have friends that breed anacondas, depending where you live you may need a permit but there are lots of places that dont require one. you dont need to own a zoo either that couldnt be more wrong....
